Planes de Gestión de los Riesgos de Inundación de primer ciclo
La mayor parte de los planes de gestión del riesgo de inundación (16 demarcaciones hidrográficas), fueron aprobados por el Gobierno, en reunión del Consejo de Ministros del 15 de enero de 2016 y publicados en el BOE nº 19, de 22 de enero de 2016. Posteriormente, en reunión del Consejo de Ministros de 15 de abril de 2016, se aprobó el plan de gestión del riesgo de inundación de la Demarcación Hidrográfica de Illes Balears, publicado en el BOE nº 92, de 16 de abril de 2016.
Por el Real Decreto 126/2018, de 9 de marzo, se aprobó el Plan de gestión del riesgo de inundación del distrito de cuenca fluvial de Cataluña.
Los planes de las 7 demarcaciones hidrográficas de Canarias se encuentran también ya aprobados mediante sendos decretos del gobierno autonómico. En febrero de 2020 se aprobaba el de La Gomera, en diciembre de 2020 los de Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura y Tenerife, y en febrero de 2021 los de Lanzarote, La Palma y El Hierro.
Durante el primer ciclo de planificación, la Comisión Europea realizó un informe de evaluación sobre los planes del primer ciclo en España y el Tribunal Europeo de Cuentas evaluó la aplicación de la Directiva de inundaciones en Europa.
