La exposición se engloba en el marco del acuerdo de colaboración realizado entre el Instituto Geológico Minero de España (IGME) con el Organismo Autónomo Parques Nacionales (OAPN), con el fin de divulgar el rico patrimonio geológico de estos espacios naturales protegidos y fomentar el conocimiento de su geodiversidad.
En la exposición cada parque está representado en dos paneles que se complementan y que permiten conocer las claves de los procesos geológicos que han conformado estos espacios naturales, ayudando a reconocer en el campo los rasgos derivados de dichos procesos. Se hace especial énfasis en considerar los parques nacionales como laboratorios geológicos en los que es posible visualizar tanto los procesos activos como aquellos que sucedieron en el pasado y han dejado su impronta y su registro en el laboratorio natural que es el Planeta Tierra, un planeta vivo y en cambio constante a lo largo del tiempo.
